Gavin Courtney Ruesch was welcomed to this world September 9, 2009 at 11:08 PM. Early Wednesday morning I started having contractions that really hurt but were far apart so I didn't worry too much. At 4 o'clock my mom took me to the doctors for my weekly appointment and Court met us there. While we were there my contractions started coming every couple minutes so as soon as the doctor came in I told him. He checked me and I was dialated to a 3 and 90% effaced so he sent us to the hospital to be checked out. We had no idea that this time we would really be staying there. When we arrived they had a delivery room ready for me and in that 10 minute drive there I had dialated another centimeter and was 95% effaced. They called my doctor and when he got there he told us there was no stopping this baby from coming so he broke my water. Luckily right after he did I was able to get an epidural so I didnt have to deal with too much pain for very long. Before Gavin was born the hospital sent in a NICU nurse to talk to us about what to expect since he was only 34 weeks gestation. We were really scared and they prepared us for the worst. We were told that he would most likely need a ventilator and we wouldn't get to hold him and really even see him. I pushed for about 20 minutes and Gavin was born. He was able to breath on his own and was so much better than what anyone had expected. I was able to hold him for about 10 minutes then Court went with him and the nurses to the NICU. The whole experience seems like a blur everything happened so fast! We feel so blessed that he is progressing so well. We don't know when he will get to come home yet but everyday he gets better and better. He is such a strong little boy and we love him so much! Here are some pictures.
